Born in 1939 Clive Wilson is a dedicated watercolourist, living and working in London. His formal training in art was at the Summer School, Slade School of Art, the Royal Watercolour Society and the New English Drawing School. Clive’s passion for watercolours is translated into successful paintings capturing light and atmosphere and he is fascinated by the challenge of rendering the variable conditions of temperature and light and reflecting the spontaneity and immediacy of the medium. He enjoys working directly from the subject, whether it is dawn rising over the backwaters of Kerala, Southern India, or at a busy city centre crossroads in Palermo, Sicily, capturing the inky depths of the shadows cast by the brilliant Mediterranean sun, subtly building up depth of colour through repeated watercolour washes and achieving transparency through the reflection of light passing through the pigment. Clive Wilson’s inspiration comes from his extensive travels including India, Italy, Spain and Greece. He has had several successful solo exhibitions, and contributed to numerous group shows including the Venice in Peril exhibition at W.H. Patterson in London. He also writes regularly for The Artist magazine. |
