Born in 1948 Christopher Glanville studied at Heatherley School of Fine Art, the Hammersmith College of Art, Byam Shaw School of Drawing and Painting and the Royal Academy Schools. He was awarded two scholarships, the Sir David Murray Landscape Scholarship and the Sir Edwin Landseer. Prior to this his first tutor and influence was his father, the artist Roy Glanville, RBA RSMA. Since his formal education, he has exhibited regularly in London, in particular the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions, the Mall Galleries, the Royal Society of British Artists, New English Art Club and the Royal Society of Marine Artists. There have been numerous additional exhibitions at galleries in London and the provinces. Christopher Glanville’s work is rooted in the finest traditions of English and European painting in landscape and interiors where he expresses the relationship of light to form and its emotional impact; especially the connections of man-made structures to the environment. His principal choice of subject matter has often included water in all its many aspects, especially the coast around the Gulf of Morbihan, Brittany and the Norfolk coast – all areas where expansive skies produce dramatic light effects and reflections. Aspects of English landscape he enjoys painting and which are recurring themes are along the Thames, streams and riverbanks. He was elected a member of the Royal West of England Academy in 1980 and has served on the Council and as Executive Vice-President of the Academy. |
