As one of the country’s leading landscape painters, Mervyn Goode needs little introduction. Born in 1948, he studied Landscape Architecture at the Gloucestershire College of Art, but soon after completing the course decided to pursue his true vocation as a painter. His first one-man exhibition in 1970 was a sell out, stimulated considerable interest and achieved rare acclaim for one so young. Since that time his career has flourished with numerous exhibitions in London and the provinces, as well as in the USA, with both one-man and mixed shows. He has exhibited with The Wykeham Gallery for many years.
Mervyn Goode has devoted himself throughout his career exclusively to landscape painting. His studio commands idyllic views across the Hampshire countryside with all its valleys, rolling farmland and woods which feature so often in his painting. A keen naturalist and conservationist, part of his garden is a small nature reserve, where all animals and birds are welcome. Living amongst and knowing intimately the countryside in all its moods and seasons is vital to his work and it is this that he portrays so effectively on canvas. As much as the execution of the painting, Mervyn enjoys choosing his subject so that the two phases are inextricably bound up in one creative process. Whilst his main home and studio is in the Hampshire ‘Hangers’ countryside, he now also owns a cottage in the South Hams area of South Devon, which has enabled him to broaden the subject matter of his work.
His paintings are in numerous private collections throughout the world and have also been reproduced as prints and cards, as well as being featured in many Fine Art books and periodicals. Mervyn has also featured in television productions and documentaries.
