Biography

About Maureen Davies

Born in 1952, Maureen Davies studied at the St. Alban’s School of Art before completing a degree in Textile Design at the Central School of Art and Design in London. Her textile background has shaped her distinctive approach to painting, with a strong emphasis on pattern, colour, and texture.

In 2011, she was elected a member of the Society of Women Artists (SWA), recognising her as an established SWA artist with a national reputation.

Style and Inspiration

Maureen Davies' art is celebrated for its focus on light and its transformative power in the landscape. She captures fleeting moments such as winter sun flickering through trees, evening sun over fields at harvest, and the brilliance of light in Portugal.

Her style moves fluidly between contemporary landscape painting and modern abstract landscape art, blending literal interpretation with expressive colour and rhythm. Living and working in Rockbourne, Hampshire, she also draws inspiration from the New Forest surroundings close to her studio.

Awards and Recognition

Maureen’s career has been marked by numerous awards. She won the International Competition for the Society for All Artists and received the Frank Herring Award for The Pastel Society in 2007, the same year she was named SAA Artist of the Year.

Her success continued with the Talens Award at Patchings in 2008, the SWA President’s and Vice-President’s Choice Award in 2009, and the Princess Michael of Kent Award for the Society of Women Artists. These achievements highlight her status as an accomplished British pastel artist.

Media and Technique

Maureen works across a range of mediums, including pastel artwork, watercolour art, collage art, and gouache art. Although versatile, she has a distinct preference for pastel landscape paintings, where her command of colour and layering brings intensity and vibrancy to her compositions.

Her background in textile design continues to influence her practice, with every piece showing a careful balance of structure, texture, and dynamic colour.

Collecting Maureen Davies’ Work

Maureen Davies art can be acquired, both new works and established pieces, ranging from luminous pastel artwork to innovative modern abstract landscape art.

For those seeking original art in Hampshire, her portfolio offers a rare opportunity to invest in the work of an award-winning artist whose paintings continue to attract strong interest from collectors across the UK.
